Just picked up a tank with bottom 2" hole drilled..
want to make overflow for corner
should I use glass or go with smoked acrylic to slow algae in overflow
does it matter ?
tank is 70 gal so only 24" deep ?
suggestions..

use glass..it's easier to attach to more glass, unless you're confident in glueing acrylic to glass. i used smoked glass in mine and regret it..it cost more and it's now covered in coraline algae anyways..so..was just a waste of money IMO.

Use glass, not acrylic. You'll have a hard time sealing the overflow if you use acrylic because silicone won't stick to it. You could get tinted glass but I don't really see the need for it, just use regular glass that's the same thickness of the tank.

i've found speedy to always treat me well..across the street from minute muffler on 6th ave.(or around there) and albert. 6mm float should be plenty enough and still cheap

I recommend Glacier Glass - they've worked with aquarists and they have reasonable prices 545-3990- they are open Saturdays from 9 AM till early afternoon.
