What type of anemone should a newbie look at getting to host his clownfish ?
18 months at this and I still consider myself a newbie . Anyways , I have a Large Carpet Anemone in my 33 QT tank and I think it is too big for my 75 . Maybe something that won't take up a third of my tank . The carpet is very healthy, whichs means , I hope, that I am doing something right.

depends on the clowns you have brent..different clowns like different homes..long tentacle or bubble tips are usually a safe anemone to be on though

I agree on the rosetip bubble anemone - the clownfish I have seem to do fine playing in finger leather corals and I've read about clowns in other `longer stemmed' corals, but I've seen my rose bubble tip anemone doing less well when the clownfish didn't live with them - however, feeding my bubbletip anemone directly with chunks of krill, shrimp etc. ( as per Scary Gary's suggestion on one saltwater tour), has certainly made the rose bta I have look better.
I know there is a symbiotic relationship here between clownfish and hosts, but how much of a difference does the type of host make? And is a clownfish better for one anemone over another?

long tentacle anemones get big fast. Sebae anemones with Sebae clowns is difinatly the easiest.
sebae's can get to 24" across :icon_eek:
way to big for most peoples tanks.. IMO

sebae's are of the more difficult to keep..long tentacle & bubble tips are quite simple..rockflower and condilactus anemones don't host clowns...so.. *shrug** there are a few other kinds..but that's what I know:smash:
