The only thing that I can find are used ones with were used for storing oil. Surely there should be a place to buy these brand new. Anyone know where in the Saskatoon area?

i got my water storage barrels from a place in saskatoon called Polywest.
if they don't have something suitable in stock, they can probably order it in for you.

they also sometimes have what the factory calls "seconds".
these sell for a reduced price.
these are not 100% perfect in some way.
could be a scratch, small color imperfection (usually something very minor)

just make sure to tell them that it has to be potable.

Not sure about Saskatoon but here in Regina there is a company called "Great Western Containers" where I bought mine.

They only have GWC in Regina and Lloydminster

Thanks for the info guys. I'll pick one up next time I'm going through either Llyod or Regina.

60 gal bleach barrel - $10 for their coffee fund as they can't return them
got 1 from them 3 years ago washed and rinced it out over several days outside leave in sun and bleach burns off...works great...cut a circular hole in top. It was Gordon Wright who got me onto them.

The ones that have had oil in them have had food grade oil like canola, flax, etc. When you buy these barrels (for $20 I might add) some are difficult to remove the oil from because they get almost like a sticker residue along the inside, and some are quite easy to clean.

Brand new these barrels are about $120 each. I found them at Flaman's in Saskatoon.

Thanks everyone. I finally managed to find the large 45g trash cans at Home Depot and they go for about $60. They seem to be the most economical choice without having to worry about contamination from used containers. These also look much thicker/sturdier than my previous Rubbermaid trash can (which eventually sprung a leak from the water pressure).
