Can "phytoplex" by Kent Marine be used to cultivate Phytoplankton, or does the product have to specify that the product is live such as "DT's Live Phyto".

No. Can't bring the living back from the dead. Has to be live and I don't even know how alive d.t's are.

phyto is quite simple to harvest yourself if you get live culture from somewhere like reefcrew. I was intending on harvesting my own rotifers too, but did not have the chance to try before I moved and all my phyto died.

Would this be an option?
I think that the Two Fishes products, PhytoPlan (phytoplankton) and ZoPlan (zooplankton), sold by Cowtown are great. Yes, they're not inexpensive, but in my opinion your corals will do so well, you should be able to sell your frags to cover the cost of the products. Then no need to grow your own phyto and zoo.
