Well , you go away for 5 days and your tank crashes . People looking after the house says everything running fine last night, but when I return today at 5 pm, GFCI tripped and every fish is dead . Some snails ands crabs are still kicking . Looks like all the corals are done . Would this short amount of time kill the whole thing off ?

DOA - 6 " Regal, 4 " Maroon , 2 x True Percs . Lawnmower blenny , 4" Yellow Tang and my last Blue-Green Chromis .

First crash for me ever , been in the hobby about 18 months .

A sad day indeed.

Maybe somthing else was happening. My 90 gal tank shut down also for at least 2 days ,possibly 3 when the GFI tripped because my pump on my HOB protein skimmer shot water on to the outlet. I only lost a couple of corals. Everything looked pretty sad but they perked up in a few days.Maybe they got electrocuted????

GFCI reset, everything running. Must be something else.

Yes, this unfortunate incident is difficult to think about. But this is the place to ask about what happened ... we can all gain through what I'm sure is a sickening situation for you.

I know it's not fun when you are responsible for living things and they don't live; I, for one, can donate a really good frag to you.

Maybe it's time for a saltwater bee?

One thing after looking at this incident we can maybe learn something. Maybe it would be wise to put 1 power head & 1 heater on a seperate circuit. My tank is set up like that so at least if my pumps quite my tank may still have a longer chance at survival. Not sure if it would have helped but IMHO it may be a good practice.

Sorry to hear about your loss, i'll get you some frags when you are ready.

Thanks for the kind words folks. What really kills me is that not everything was lost. Still have some snails and one large Conch . A couple of crabs. One ricordia survived as well as a neon open brain . Lost all of my Xenia, colt corals , waiting to see if the zoos survived. They don't look to bad . Still cleaning .

Any ideas folks ? It appears the GFCI only tripped less than 24 hours earlier .

Thanks for the offer Jason . All levels in the tank are fine. I'm getting more baffled everyday .

I'll take you up on the offer some time next week. I completely cleaned all the rock, major rearrangement and healthy water change. All looks good.

Survivors still hanging in there . I'll PM you sometime next week to take you up on your offer.

What happened here, Jon? Did the fish and corals get zapped or did your bulbs explode in the water, perhaps? Does your tank not have glass between the lighting and the water? Maybe run this by all of us since I'm sure we can learn from the incident.

Yikes, you guys are scaring me with these tanks crashing - it's a sickening feeling to lose important things. Very sorry to hear about your trouble, Jon. I'm sure I can frag something for you fairly soon.
