Cleaning rock

Can i take a larger piece of rock from in my tank and clean it for ten minutes out of water? This stupid piece has apstasia and cactus algae all over it. Will there be to much die off? What will it do once i put it back in? There are no corals on this piece.

THe rock should be fine.....I have had rock out the tank for longer then that....just don't use tapwater..lol..or cold water to clean it.I think you'll be ok!:D

Just use tank water to clean it and you will be fine. I have had corals out of my tank for longer than that while fragging them.
