View Full Version : DIY Lighting Fans

I have built these DIY fans for my lighting system on my 5.5 gallon nano. It is quite a simple thing to do.
STEPS:
1) Aquire one or more computer fans. I took mine out of the power part of an old computer but they can be purchased at any computer supply store.
2) Get a Ac/Dc addapter. Can be purchased almost anywhere that sells electronics for approx $20.
3) Strip the ends of the wires and wire red to red and the add the corresponding cord from the adapter. Repeat for the black wires. See picture below.
4) Make sure to tape all connections TIGHT as you do not want water getting in there.
5) Mount the fans to your hood.
You now have a variable speed fan setup for your tank for under $50.
