Im been having trouble keeping my ph over 8.0 for the past year.
I dose kalk which raises ph to 8.1-8.17 .If my doser runs out my ph drops to 7.9 within hrs.
new tester july(salifert and new ph probe aug(pinpoint). My nano has readings of 8.26ph
If i add ph buffer ph goes to 8.3 then drops back within an hour.
I do a 40 gal water change(city water) every 2 weeks.ph of makeup water using IO salt is 8.27.
No substrate but my tank has been this way for years so probly not the prob.
Im running a 72gal reef full of 100pdsLr with sps/lps/and some softies with a 120gal sump.Aprox 160gal total.Running over 3000gph thru sump and tank
Ph 8,Alk 8-9,calc 380,mag 1300,no amm,nitrites or nitrates,no phos,no copper,no bad algea,no deaths or probs nothin new.
Any suggestions

lighter side reply:

this sounds just like my swimming pool..always adding ph up as the ph drops al the time and I just always thought it was the sunshine killing the ph levels...
wonder if it whats in our water though...ever swim at buffalo pound ..
wonder if the guys that use filtered water have the same problem...

my Air conditioning just went on me last week. So I've had to open windows and doors in the house when it's cool outside. My Ph was always 7.7, now it's 8.1, always thought that was a myth, but fresh air worked on my tank.

yea, a higher CO2 content could pose a lower pH.

Ive heard similar stories about water been saturated with co2 because of not enough fresh air.My 120gal sump is in the storage room of my apartment where it gets no fresh air and im basement with to many freaks that walk by 5 feet from my windows so im scared to open them.i wonder if there is a way to get oxygen to it?thanks for your reply

get one of those tubes for your laundry dryer and put it in the window and just have a fan on the end of it pulling air in...not pretty but it'll work :D
