I have the week off and have been musing about my aquarium experiences, specifically how I was able to get four aquariums (all be it two were here before my wife) past the threshhold of the house with my better halfs approval.

A total of 216 gallons is not alot I have told her, she accounts for it in square footage not available for "other" things deemed neccessary in her decorating plans. That and the lack of mobility of the aquariums seem to be her biggest stumbling blocks to more aquariums.....I do not understand! lol As she doesn't to my need ....well not neccesarily more but BIGGER aquariums that loom in "my" future.

That last aquarium that made its way past the door ia a very innocent way. "Look honey, I was at the fish auction and I won this aquarium!!! can we keep" I gave it my best sell like I was bringing home a lost cat in desperate need of a caring home, gave her my best puppy dog eyes and she let out a sigh of deflation and said "lets see it"

Well as I unpacked the boxes I continued with my sales pitch on how nice the top was finished, no hang on filters or hoses etc.(Hagen Venezia) that she sees as unsightly AND as a bonus I would set it up as a salt water aquarium which from prior conversations and comments she had made knew she would warm up to...."Hey you can even pick out the fish for it!" The hook was set all I had to do was reel in with care and mission accomplished...

Well at that point I was about to unpack the the stand which was a black/brown type of wood grain look, when she got her first glimpse....a raised eyebrow! I froze for a second, was this good or bad? I didn't know if it was time for damage control and the attempt to sell the alternate color on the other side of the doors..just then she says "those colors go pretty good" a sigh or relief I kicked the reeling into high gear and my .....err her salt water tank is born.

Who else has a story to share on how they got "another" aqaurium past their wife, husband, boy freind or girl freind?

I have found that it is EASIER TO BEG FORGIVENESS THAN ASK PERMISSION! Just make sure the thing is in and set up before she gets home, Great Success!

Well I do have to say I have never had to 'ask' permission... altho' I do have to admit I have no spouse,
a canine and 2 felines don't pack a lot of authority fishwise in the house...
In talking to my sister though, I kinda place it somewhere in the conversation ' oh I have been very bad .... again...

now sitting at 28 tanks, and ~2500 gallons...
(21 freshwater 1871 gallons plus pond, 7 salt - 540gal)

maybe I should have had to ask someone for permission...:Shhh:

maybe freshwater wise Rick cichloholic, but salt...

Jorjef maybe you can use this as leverage to say hey,
look not so bad and rationalize with your spouse that you need your 'decorative' space as well :icon_bigg

That would be a never ending debate...cars vs. bathroom reno....riding lawn mower vs. dining room set.....big screen vs. new washer and dryer. Would be like getting oil and water to mix......"MY" decorative space request would fall into the " humm nice try" catagory.. LOLOL..

But thanks for the support..
