Just gotta put my two cents in... i am currently in Winnipeg, stayin in the canada inn attached to the regent casino, anyway they have this beautiful archway tank dividing too rooms of the casino(unsure on gallons) but its pretty sweet. The tank is well stocked and clarity looks good, but the overall health of some of the fish is downright dis-heartening...Regal tangs with slim to no fins and almost looks as if the have flesh eatin disease...yellows in the same shape..., and you can see skull bones in their faces...its such a shame. Just had to vent, i know we keep tanks for visual enjoyment but thats cruel!!!!!:NoNo:

Yeah we saw it a few years back but the condition of the fish were good at that time...

Aw, that's horrible. Maybe you can leave an anonymous "how was your stay?" comment. Or maybe not so anonymous! ;) I know I wouldn't be able to see that without saying something.

Well, it's likely that they can't catch the fish to treat them. It's really too bad, but we may not know all the circumstances.

They don't have to be caught to be treated. Besides, you can always catch them if you're determined. They should not have been placed into a situation where this would happen. It is likely human error (like lack of maintenance or knowledge) that has caused the situation.

I've seen that tank a few times now and the vast majority of the tangs and angelfish all had head and lateral line erosion. Its too bad because that tank could be really beautiful had this not been the case.

I know a few guys from there and they told me the casino setup that tank using pumps and filtration equipment designed to be used for an inground pool since it was cheaper, instead of using equipment designed for aquarium use. I'm assuming because of this, there is a fair bit of stray voltage entering the water which is causing the HLLE in the larger fish.

I know the issue has been brought up repeatedly on the Winnipeg Fish Forum and nothing has ever been done about it. Not sure if its true or not but one of the local guys said the casino has a budget of $1500 a month to buy new fish to replace all the ones that die off. Pretty sad use of that money as they could be spending it on upgrading their equipment so that the fish would live for more than a few months before going belly up.

:O Inground pool equipment? That's a sand filter! Good grief... those things are fairly expensive, I'm surprised they couldn't get a reasonable setup going with that kind of coin.

The one guy i talked to about the setup said the budget one million for up keep of the tank a year!!!!Its a damn shame

That's ridiculous they can't keep the tank in good shape with a budget of $1mil, however that seems exaggerated. How big is it?

the viewin tanks is 150 000L....i thiught it was a bit high as well! wonder if that includes the 1500 month for stock replacement...well if thats the case one would think the conditions of the fish would be better!!!

I was just there too. Yes i agree the fish are in horrible shape. My guess is though that its not the casino's fault. I'll bet they went and bought the cheapest fish and because of that those fish were probably from some shadey vendors that still support cyanide capture which is known for causing lateral erosion.

From what I could see that tank was in very clean shape and looked well maintained.
