Got a new person into the Aquarium hobby today, just fresh for now, but i think they will come around to salt sooner or later. Anyway it got me thinking, i want to get at least one other person in my home town into the marine hobby(for the obvious reasons) So i thought why not make it a challenge, to every member to try and get one person into the hobby by the end of the year. No prizes of couse.....lol, but it would a good idea for the club if there is any interest in such a thing. Im making a goal of mine anyway, im throwing down the gauntlet, any taker's.

P.S. i think im getting Christmas spirit early this year, lol

I just convinced my dad a few months ago to get into salt water. We just filled up his tank last weekend..... I think the hardest part about getting people into this hobby is the money factor. New people alway's ask how much is it going to cost. Now the question is do you tell them how much they are really going to spend over the course of a year, or do you tell them a number that they think would be reasonable. I don't even keep track of how much I spend on this hobby in a year, if I did I don't think I would have any hair left. LOL. When my dad asked how much it would cost to get him started with salt water, I told him a low number. Now that he's getting into this hobby money doesn't seem to be as big of a factor anymore. He's spent well over what I said it would cost already, but I knew if I told him the truth he never would have given a reef tank a chance.

Another challenge might be to see if you can find a saltwater person who doesn't know about the Regina Reef Club and our tours and so forth ... and get them active with us.

I let a friend of mine, John the dentist, know about this site recently - he couldn't make to to last weekend's tour but he did get by Rick Johnston's to purchase some things. I think he's been quite pleased with this forum.

Today, when two different people asked me "what's new?", I mentioned that I had gotten into salt in the last eight months and I told them a little about the anemones and the fish i Have. Both people gave me names of someone I know who I didn't realize was in our hobby. I will contact both tomorrow and invite them to check out this forum.

The more the merrier - and the `more' can be start-up hobbyists or `established but new to us' types.
