Sea horses are getting alot easlier to keep. People are captive breeding seahorses now. I would get captive and not wild caught. I would also ask want they have been eating since babies. Seahorse dont like a lot of flow and things they can grab on too with there tails. I thing you would just be fine with a couple of Captive breed. Gary had wild caught at one time and hand feed them everyday, and he was able to keep them alive. Goodluck

Actually most of mine were captive bred. The reason for feeding that way was so they get enough to eat. If you just put the food in the tank, most of it gets sucked up by the filters before they get a chance to eat it. Some people train the horses to est out of feeding dish. Horses should be kept in their own tank, with a few peaceful fish if you want. The fish will also eat the food before the horses if just thrown in the tank. Horses are slow eaters and should be feed a minimum of 2 times a day, with 4-5 to feedings being better. Captive bred will eat frozen mysis easily. Seahorses are not a long lived species.

thanks guys! it was just a thought i had but maybe im to novice! i will wait to get more exp!
I picked up a pair a few weeks ago.very beautiful and peaceful. They are in an 11 gallon tall nano.I agree they require virtually no flow so they can move about.I have them in with a tiny two spot goby and a few peppermint shrimp.they were eating mysis from the time they went into the tank.Keep up on your weekly water changes and they should be good to go.I think they do better in small tanks because they can find the food easier.Good Luck.

The ones I get, are captive bred and are from Viet Nam. I have brought in at least 20 in the last 3 to 4 months and have had very great success in keeping them. In my store they readily eat frozen mysis and brine shrimp..... thanx p.b. call 569-9070......

Don't feed them brine shrimp as there is not enough nutrition in brine. Once in awhile is o.k.
