Hey everybody. I need some input here. Was drawing up some ideas how to set up this new system (holidays in 3 weeks if it's not set up by then) and I'm kinda stumped. The container has a threaded bung (think it's 1") on the bottom which I could hook my pump on to for a return line. However, if my tank ever stops draining (drilled 1-1/2 on 2 sides of the back pane so unlikely, but, ya never know) I'm gonna empty the entire contents of that container onto my basement floor. The idea I have right now is to have the flow from the tank (dark blue) go into the sump and exit at the bottom. Then pump from about 3/4 of the way up (read 25 gallons on the floor not 100). What I am not sure of is will the water exit these pipes at the bottom of the sump or would the pressure just equalize and stop flowing. I have made a half arsed drawring of what I mean. Will it work? I should also add that the pipe coming from the tank will drop about a foot on it's way to the sump. It won't be level like the pic.

i plan on doing something remarkably similar to that in the new place. I see no reason that it should be a problem, given the bottom of your 100gal cylindrical sump doesn't break :D but then again, the floor inevitably gets wet when something breaks. you should have a drain in the basement, no?

I hope the overflows in your tank are higher than the top of your sump.My tanks overflows are at say 3ft but my sump drums stand over 3.5 ft Im not getting as much overflow as i would if my tanks overflows where 2 or 3 ft higher at least. It overflows out of the tank at 3 ft and must climb back up to 3.5ft slowing the water flow into sump.

I'm planning to do it so the overflows are anywhere between 6" to a foot above the sump.

I do have a drain in my basement however it's gotta soak through a lot of carpet to get there. If it breaks that would be ok, cause the wife only gets mad if it's something that I caused (I cannot be held liable for acts of god) mostly through acts of stupidity.
