Well I went to ddk pets in moosejaw and found out that they doing one big order and thats it. The woman told me that there is a saltwater fish banned going on and some other stores wont be ordering in wild caught fish, inverts, and corals because some companys use chemicals to catch fish and take corals from reefs. Green peace is not taking this very well since the diasters of the reefs in the indo-pacific.

This could, the new 15% surcharge on US origin items for the aquarium trade. This surcharge is in retaliation for the softwood lumber duty and will be in place until at least Apr 30, 2006. It applies to 7 other HS code items, non aquarium related.
I haven't heard of any interprovincial trade bans...but you never know.
from a marine distributor in bc.

Your right John. Canada has set up a bunch of surcharges on American products with the blessing of the world trade organization, and one of the things hit is the fish hobby. Stupid if you ask me,because the dealers will just add it to the price so we end up paying for it. Add 15% surcharge to our gas and oil exports to the U.S. and they end up paying like they should. They would also make way more that way. Only thing is they just might invade:new_snipe us as they really need our natural gas and oil.

Guy's guy's, please don't bash all Americans, the average ma and pa, US citizen is just the same as us, they dislike the politics and certain politicial leader's that hand out these negative issuue's to us Canadian's and other countries, just as much as we do. hence don't paint all US people with the same red brush, we don't wish to be painted in such way's as canadian's right. After all i think it would be safe to say, we as canadian's don't all, always agree with our leader's and some of the thing's that they do, as well as how we feel about the image they have given to other countries about us as a country. In this regard it is a two way street. However, i would say i agree with you guy's about us getting the raw end of the stick, with these issues, don't kidd yourselves the American people can't wait to bite back into a jucy Canadian grain fed steak, corn fed beef just doesn't cut the mustard. :canadaf:

I often wonder what the veterans that are still alive from WWII think about today's government. Politics has ruined Canada as we know it, IMO.
as for the levy tax...boourns. I guess it's a good thing I won't be in a position to be buying stuff for my tank for a while.
I don't understand how a country as free as Canada can be so far in debt.
and those are my 3 random thoughts of the day. thankyou and goodnight.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that our country has been ruined, that's pretty strong. I would say that comparatively we have not gone any further downhill than the rest of the world. Unfortunately most people will scream at the top of their lungs about freedoms, but hide when it comes to resposibilities. Veterans of legitimate wars can tell you about living up to the responsibilities that come with living in a free country.
This brings me back to the original point. As reef hobbiests, we enjoy the freedom of being able to buy various fish and corals from around the world. Don't we also have the responsibility to try and make sure that we aren't contributing to the destruction of the natural reef systems, that feed our hobby?
As for the other point, whether or not they originate in the US and are subject to a tariff is sort of beside the point for me. Plenty of dealers import direct from the countires of origin, so the livestock doesn't really matter. As for dry goods, if they should become more expensive due to tariffs, then many dealers will just start finding other suppliers or brands that do not originate in the US and are not overpriced. Besides it not very hard to place a personal order through the internet, pay by credit card and avoid the surcharge. Shipping companies don't care were items go, and some suppliers will be willing to look the other way if it's costing them buisness. Sad to say but it's all about money, money money.
