I've got a sabae anenome, cool purple tips on the tentacles, and I just have some questions on feeding it.

So far I've been feeding it a shrimp, from a party shrimp ring, every 3 days.

Was wondering if I should be feeding it something other than that and how often.

I wouldn't feed it cooked shrimp if it were me. I feed my RBTA raw shrimp, scallops or krill. I have even tried squid. Pretty much any seafood as long as it is raw. I usually soak food in selcon or some other vitamin supp. first. I feel safer with raw food as you don't know how it was cooked or what might have been added.

Good point on the cooked stuff. DO you just buy the shrimp etc frozen from the grocery store?

Grocery store shrimp is fine. Frozen or not. I use what ever is available. When ever we cook shrimp or any seafood for that matter I usually save some back for my tank. It makes my wife shake her head so I make sure it comes outta her portion of dinner!

Anemones will eat anything. I feed mine bloodworms, krill, plankton, mysis, brine, and even guppies. I would never feed anything cooked to my marine animals.

can extensive feeding reduce the lighting requirements of anenomies? or does it suppliment the lighting so we are still talking halides here?

thanks,

Jon

I'm trying it out under PC's running 50/50 bulbs. The anenome is right at the top of my rock close to the lights.

Also is it normal that these things get really big at night? Mine is almost double the size at night. Then when the lights are on it kinda shrinks. Not curls up but is just not as...expanded?

Hey Gary that Xenia you hooked me up with is doing great. It's definatly tripled in size!

I realize that they are a newbie coral but it's reassuring to have that first coral succeed and grow. Thanks for all your help and advice.

I'll have to stop by and check out your tanks again soon. I'll make sure to bring a friend again. LOL  :Naughty:

My anemone has only been under 110 watt power compacts and 40 watt actinic. It has been in the tank for 5 years. It has split twice, in half the first time and into three the second time. The percs now own two homes and a cottage as they use all of them. After the three split, one migrated around the tank twice before settleing back where it started. Great the xenia has taken because it sometime can be picky till established. Anytime Paul.
