Does anyone here currently keep a Donut Coral(Scolymia sp.)? If so what are the lighting requirements of this coral? DOes it prefer to be kept in the sand or on the rocks? Any general care tips/requirements are welcome.
Thanks,
Kris

Very similar to the brain corals. It needs moderate lighting and should be placed in the sand.

I have had one for almost a year. Up until recently it was lighted by only 80watts of Hagen tubes. (Power, Marine, Super,) Now that I have 250Mh it is bulging over its skeleton cup. At nights it sucks into the cup part. I spot feed it once every few weeks. The trick was to get the food down into it, and stop shrimp and crabs from stealing the food. I used a long plastic tube to get the food to it (sinking marine pellets, Hagen). You have to scare the other critters away because it’s a slow eater. Mine gets really colorful and it reaches out its tentacles when food is in the water. Color is orange and pink, white tips on tentacles.
