Those penguin HOB filters with the Bio Wheels. Are they a good thing for reef aquariums or not, and why?

I run emperor's or penquin's on all my tanks. I like them because they gather stuff from the bottom of the tank and add more water flow and a differentkind of filtration. I prefer the Emperor's because they have an extra compartment for whatever eg. denitrate, extra carbon, etc. In my opinion these can't hurt, only help. My lionfish tank has one of these as it's only filtration, along with live rock. I do cut out every second bar on the bottom inlet cover as I found the way they come to small to allow most stuff to get sucked upinto the filter.
