feed your shrimps

Just wondering how many people feed their shrimps. I mean feeding food directly to the shrimps till they grab it. Just read an article on shrimps that mentions some shrimp may not be catching enough food that floats by so remember to give them some directly. I hold a piece of frozen close to them and they'll jump on to it and start picking at it.

I did that from time to time with a skunk cleaner shrimp, the only problem I see is if you do it too often why would the shrimp bother scavenging or cleaning paracites when it gets a free meal every day?

I feed my CBS everytime I feed my anemone. Once to twice a week I load some mysis into a turkey baster and feed the anemone then the bubble, brain and CBS.

Feeding your cleaner wrasse dose'nt stop eat from cleaning the fish. My cleaners never stop cleaning. You don't have to feed them every day.

I did at one time but no longer do. They are always grabing food when I feed my fish. So they must get enough to stay alive.

My cleaner shrimp, Hancock, seems to be very aggressive about getting his share of food. He actually swims and hops around very quickly and gets anything within 6" of the bottom. He also actively cleans Nestor, the lawnmower blenny. Hancock is a little sketchy about me, gets better as time passes, but I hope to handfeed him shortly. That way, I can ensure he's getting everything he needs. My 3 percs and my royal gramma gobble up everything in short order, so I don't worry about them.

i was told to feed 'cleaners' a maximum of once a week or they would get 'lazy'. if this is not so maby i should be feeding my brittle stars more? perhaps they would be more active and overall healthier, i hand feed them about a 1/4 cube of mysis once or twice a week.

I'm wondering if the number of crabs you have in the tank is a consideration - if only a few, the cleaner shrimp should have all the food available to it that is missed by the fish ... sort of a bottom buffet.

I also feed my 2 cleaners everytime I feed my anemone. If I don't bribe them with a small chunk of krill they will steal the food away from the BTA in a matter of seconds..:icon_lol:
