I had nothing but success with salifert, yet they do carry a higher price tag.

I too just started to use Salifert....question about the PO4. I put the powder in and swirl for 30 secs, but it does not dissolve. Do I use the little spoon to mix it up or read it as is?
Thanks.

lostatsea mine does not fully dissolve but only a tiny bit dosent, I just read it as is. I to use Salifert, but I think I will be switching to Elos due to some incurate test kits & they are also having some internal bussness problems & its affecting customer service, I think they may be going out of buissness!!! Salifert had there own forum on reefcentral but it has been take off because salifert has not responed to many customer problems for a long time now. I dont know for sure whats happend to them but I cant trust my tank to a test kit that has had known problems, the newer test kits seem to have problems but not all are affected & know one can get answers from them. Maybe someone else knows more.

SALIFERT IS AWESOME. Very accurate and reasonably priced. About 1$ per test

Test Kits is a great topic. I have tried Elos and Salifert, I had a new kit of both for testing phosphates, results where stupid, two different readings, which one was right? I have tried a lot of different test kits in the last 14years I have been in the hobby. Now I'm thinking of trying the API test kits, what I have read there just as good as the lamotte, elos, salifert. The best thing about API Test Kits is the price, half the price as any other kit. I do a lot of testing so if there accurate, thats the way to go for me. If you have some time research API telling what you find.

I've been using API since I started, only about 6 months ago. Experience is limited. I've been switching over to Salifert as I run out of API. I like salifert better. They have better resolution, in their tests. For example one drop of Ca reagent is 20 ppm. I don't like comparing colors of solutions to test cards. I usually do my testing at night and with the crappy lighting in my house it's difficult to distinguish colors. Most of my new Salifert test are color change solutions. Much easier to read. The downside with Salifert is that there are usually 3 components to the test, so more monkeying around with chemicals. I don't really endorse either one, testing is a pain no matter how you do it. Just trying to give some insight to the matter.
My API calcium reads about 300 and my Salifert reads 410. Both are reasonably new kits. My guess is that with the amount of calcium I've been adding to my tank it is closer to 400 than 300. I need another kit to compare to.

I just purchased Elos Kh and Mg. I do not like the Kh test at all. The Salifert test in my opinion is far more accurate ( as far as reading the results ). I have not tried the Mg test yet but my thoughts are Salifert test are still the best tests and I will continue to use them for now.
Any new word on the Salifert issues?
Cheers
