Great pics. Wondering if you are skimming the octo's tank. Just read an article that highly recommends skimming and weekly water changes. The reason is that octo's urinate alot after eating. More than an average fish so their water will pollute very quickly, and they need better water quality than most marine fish. Keep us informed

just wonder, will the octopus attack the fishes?

im not skimming the tank as Im on a bit of a budget at the moment, but its mostly because its hard make the tank escape proof and still look neat if there is lots of stuff hanging off the back.
wat im using is a 20g with 25lbs lr and 20lbs ls with the eclipse hood/filter. I also have a huge black brittle starfish for cleanup but im looking to get some caulerpa if anyone is trimming anytime soon? ;)
ive been doing bi-daily 5% water changes, ammonia and nitrite are stable at 0, but nitrate raises from 10 to around 30ish in those 3 days. my real problem is debris buildup, ive stopped feeding live shrimp now as there are empty shells and limbs everywhere, siphoned them all out last night.

haha if your ever in moose jaw feel free to ask for a tour, altho sometimes its hard to organize something over the octos schedule...but food can sway him quite easily to show himself

What are your plans when this gets bigger, i can imagine it will need a 15gal + tank in the future... what kind of octopus is it?

its already in a 20g, doesnt seem like it needs much room, but maintaining good water quality in a small volume will be the biggest challenge, its about 1.5" head adn 5" arms now. I believe its an O. Bimaculoides as they are one of the least nocturnal, they are small, have the false eyespot, are easily trained on frozen foods, and are commonly available in wild and captive raised flavors, all of these traits are common to my octo.
They advise having 30-50g so im hoping a well maintained 20g will do the trick, but if not i have no reluctance to go larger if need be.

i dont know why it would need a 150g tank when it probably only has 1/2 a life ahead of it and 6" is strecking it (no pun intended) including arms. but if worst comes to worst, i do have an empty 75g in the garage that i used to use for koi during the winter that i could always setup.

Just thought this might be an interesting read for you many threads related to this specific species are located here

PS - Take a look at "Ollie" (pics close to the bottom of the page) and tell me again that a 20gal is an acceptable home for this creature.

WOW! Ive been to that site before but never saw that particular thread, I do have a few posts there and noone said anything negative towards the 20g....maby I should be washing out the old 75g and we ordering a couple boxes of live rock so its cured in a month!!!
