hey I know this has been attempted in the past and has just kinda not happened but I would like to set up some type of Saskreef gathering in saskatoon where we can all go around and check out peoples tanks. Then go to a pool hall or something after.

I wanna see a frag auction ahah but yes this would be very cool. I have a few peoples tanks in mind that I would love to see in person.

We had a tank tour last winter but not very many people showed up.

I think we'd be up for it sometime in November

We had a small gathering a while back, seen sphelps tank, which was stellar!
Just not many people were interested back then, maybe that's changed now!
If I'm home I'm in.

I wanna see a frag auction
I also like this idea. They do this quite often in larger cities. They usually meet at least every other month often every month in the winter. Brett...Set it up.. set the date and place and away you go.

Brett - just set it up the auction at Ricks house....after all he has a fish room to show us all!!! LOL Oh, I'm sorry Rick....were we supposed to ask you first???? hehehe
BTW - I have no frags...but am interested in buying! Not sure if that counts or not.
Actually - here is an idea to throw out. Ask the Saskatoon Aquarium Society if we could piggyback at their auction and meeting - once a month - last Sunday of the month. Would be beneficial to both parties - more people see corals and frags might lead to more interest....just a thought.

Last time only 3 people showed up for the tour, dispite the larger amount of interest shown on the forum. I honestly don't see myself being part of something like this again, just doesn't seem worth while. If someone wants to see my tank, buy some frags and you'll see it.

thats what I did and I almost wet my pants... ahhaah
as for the frag auction... one of us could set one up but seriously how many people out there have that many frags to sell? I guess if we started it, the first one would be really slow and it would pick up eventually. I know that I am almost ready to start fragging some stuff. I bet we could even have it at someones house because there cant be that many of us out there haha
sorry for hijacking your thread btw ahha

the tank tour was awesome - too bad for a small turnout - everone else's loss
i dont mind showing my tanks to a few people at a time , but i'm not interested in a large group tour.
im not also crazy about auctions - the saskreef forum has been great for getting available frags
there was some mention before about member galleries - this would be an excellent way to strut your stuff

That actually sounds the most reasonable to me..

Now that's a good idea...as far as I know they're not solely a FW club - all we have to do is either join...or just show up...anyone here a member who would know that?

To bid on stuff at the auction, you dont need to be a member, but in order to sell stuff you do.

Sounds reasonable...
I've only gone to their auction once...I'd go more often, but I keep forgetting to write it on my calendar!
It's totally different to get together with a group of people in 'real life' than to get together in 'print'. As nice as the internet is, it's also just as nice to get out into the real world...:roflmao:

Sean Borycki (sorry about spelling) is or was the president at one point I think. I'm sure he'd be able to help point you in the right direction if you were interested in selling frags at the meeting/swap. Just remember to let lots of people know and expect it to go for 25% of what you think it's worth.

I remember going to one of those auctions once like 5 or 6 years ago and someone was selling some salt water stuff.. Im sure you would be allowed to sell stuff because its called the aquarium society. not the freshwater aquarium society. but you do need to be a member to sell stuff. I think memberships are like 5 dollars a year.

I think memberships are like 5 dollars a year.
Prices are as follows:
Adults: $15.00
Juniors: $5.00
Family: $15.00 To become a member sign up at the next meeting.

I like the idea of a tank tour just because it didn't work once there is no need to give up on it.
