View Full Version : Just how hardy are zoanthids?

I feel a need to give Gadgetguy a break...:multicolo So here's a change of subject...

I have some 'regular' blue zoas...I glued them to a frag disk when when I got them...then I re-glued half of them when the emerald crab pulled them off the disk while she was eating algae that was on the disk as well...

Then a different macro took over the disks, today I figured I'd better do something before the algae totally choked them out...but I ended up tearing them off the disks while trying to remove the algae and having to reglue them yet again...I lost a couple of polyps but most were fine and seem to have survived the operation without undue trauma...

I'm surprised at how tough they are! :bravo: Is it just this 'regular' variety I have, or are all the zoanthids tough?

ok so sorry for highjacking the thread, but I have a rock with probably 100 zoanthid polyps that I would like to frag, how exactly do you go about getting them off of the rock and onto a frag disk?

Zoos are pretty hardy. Easy to frag too, they usually have a nice 'mat' under them, peel or cut sections away, and glue to the frag disks.

P.S. Wear gloves

I'm glad they're hardy then! Makes them a good victim, er, I mean, experimental subject when it comes to gluing and manipulating...

...didn't wear gloves though...I suppose I really should...

Just in case you guys didn't know, some zoo's have very deadly toxins. make sure to always wash up after handling those guys.

I was rearranging my tank and moved my zoos a couple times and holy crap did my hand ever burn/itch for the rest fo the day, ever poke yourself with a cactus, and it doesn't just hurt, it burns.

I thought it was the palys, moreso than the zoos that were so toxic?
