and I have a question, what type of snail is this? nassarius? he will always bury himself and when there is food he just jumps out of the sand at it. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j154/dwerbs/065.jpg

Its actually not a turbo snail, but rather a species of nassarius snail, Nassarius distortus. There amazingly little information on these guys apart from advanced invert. zoology texts, but mine never harmed a thing and did a good job sifting the sand and eating leftover food.

scjohnsons gave it to me when I bought the rest of his stuff, and I absolutely love him, I thought he looked like a nassarius snail. but ya I couldn't find much on him I love how he is completely burried with just his tube poking out and how fast he moves when food is involved.

Really? I had them pegged as Babylonia spp.

Hmm, it does look identical to Babylonia zeylanica....mabe this is another case of a name change...i hate it when they do that.

Yeah, that's one of the sites I went through...but can't quite find a species to match the shell exactly...

...I've been searching for another half-hour and can't come up with anything definative yet...although I did find another picture...

How about maybe a "mitra papalis" snail. I had one of those for a while. http://www.gastropods.com/3/Shell_153.html

Colors are close but the shell is way too long. he is more short and stubby. Man so many different snails out there, here I thought there was only like 10:P
I just coming back to nassarius snail due to how he burries himself, and how fast he is. I want to get a whole bunch of these, I think it would be so cool when I feed the tank just watching the sand come to life.

...well, Colby carries them...I'm using the name he gets them under (Orange-spotted Turbo)...that's were I got my 5 from...

But I agree that behaviour wise they seem more nassarius-ish...but the shells are distinctly different...

I got the Nassarius distortus from liveaquaria.com, they were on the collectors corner section and i assumed it was a decent souce despite being unable to find any reliable pictures of Nassarius distortus. but i guess, regardless of what it is, they appear to be excellent, peaceful, reef safe, sand sifters.
