If you find the sidebar menus distracting, or want the entire screen to be used by the forums, then click on Quick Links and scroll down to the bottom where it says Side Bar Off. Click on it and there you go, the side bar is off.
When you want the Side Bar back on, click on Quick Links and Side Bar On.
Simple.
