Please read this message fully so I don't have to repeat it in question and responses.

Well, we've moved to the next phase of the site's growth - the photo gallery software has been purchased and installed. This thread will contain info about the Photo Gallery. Everything is subject to change depending on how it affects the server load and storage capacity.

1. Every registered user of this site - SaskReef.ca can upload images. No one is prohibited or excluded.

2. Registered users have a maximum file storage of 2MB for images

3. Supporters have a maximum file storage of 10MB for images

4. All images have a maximum file size of 100Kb - so in many instances you'll have to reduce image quality if you want to keep the larger visual size of the image, ie: instead of reducing the image by 50% to get the file size down, re-save the image reducing the image quality to 70% instead of 100% for example

Here are some resources to use to manipulate your images if you don't have software. These are FREE tools.

Ifanview - http://www.irfanview.com/

Mihov Image Resizer - http://www.imageresizer.com/

MS Powertoys for WinXP - Image Resizer - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Things appear to be working, I've uploaded a couple of old images and they are in my gallery.

Everyone has their own gallery. It is created when you upload your first image. Currently there is only the option for storing images in each person's personal gallery. We can set up separate categories for various types of images, ie: corals, invertebrates, fish, skimmers, etc. Let me know what you think (perhaps start a new thread in this forum to discuss this topic and keep this one for Photo Gallery Help).

If you have technical difficulties, post here and I'll do my best to help you. In most cases, the problem will be that your image is too big, and you'll have to learn how to resize it. I welcome anyone who wants to chip in and respond to any requests for help, since you might get to help the person before I can. It's not difficult, but you may have to learn how to use some new software. Don't get frustrated, it's quite simple once you get the hang of it.

A link to the Photo Gallery will be put in the left side menu, as well in the top menu bar, and in this message - http://www.saskreef.ca/photopost/

I may integrate the photo gallery so that it displays when the main forum page displays also.

****When you are logged into the site from the Forums pages, you are also logged into the Photo Gallery. If you can't get into the Photo Gallery, it's because you have some old "cookies" from before the software was installed. There should be a link on the Photo Gallery login page if you keep getting a login screen. The link should say something like - Problem Logging In? and present you with a link to clear your cookies. It works, I know I had to use it the first time.*****

Thanks,

Admin
