Good or Bad idea

I was just looking for opinions,Found this diy project for a calcium reactor using The Eheim 2213 canister.
What do you guys and girls think?would this be worth trying?

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a Calcium reactor? The reactors aren't usually too pricy, it's the CO2 and controls which usually get quite expensive. That canister filter and pump will cost way more than a standard calcium reactor. Plus I'm sure a calcium reactor will work better, as they are designed to.

Also with the larger base and shorter design you're opening yourself up for channeling which will result in a pretty ineffective design. This is why most good reactors are tall and slender.
