I picked up some blue tip staghorn frags from Rybcat(awsome tank ),and i was wondering where would be the best placement for them.
Right now they are approx 2" from the water surface, the lighting is a 175w 12k,and it is 12" from the water surface.
Is this to close??
Thanks

So long as you acclimated the stag to your lighting either by using window screening or slowly raising it to its current depth, it should do just fine without suffering from any bleaching. You probably could get away putting it even deeper in your tank if you wanted to. I've found with many sps corals that the deeper in the tank you place them, the better colouration they typically have although their growth rate will not be quite as good as if they were placed higher in the tank.

Pat I would put the frag close as you can to the top. I got a frag from Mike a month ago and set it at the top, I'm using 250watt DE 13000k bulbs and its doubled in size. Mikes using the same bulbs as me.

Patrick, that paticular stag you got from me like's it light. I played around with different placement in my tank and it has always shown the best color when it is placed closest to the light source. With 175 I would put it as close as you can to the light.
