Hey!
I'm curious to know what others recommended for a substrate bed depth??? I'm hearing mixed views..... What do you recommend?

i have about 1" of crushed coral with about 30lbs of sand mixed in on the one side of the tank.
I would recommend sand over crushed coral. I'm contemplating a way to change my system over without too much trauma.
1" to me holds enough life to support my tank. I chose it over fear of the anerobic bacteria that can accumulate in deeper sandbeds which can release a fury of ungodly disaster if disturbed.
some might argue deeper is better, but that's why I have a 1" sandbed. I wouldn't go over 2"

In Hong Kong, we always using 5" deep sand bed!
There is a picture attached from a Hong Kong fish lover!

I have between 3 - 4 " in my tank without any adverse effects.
This is one of those subjects that appears to be under constant debate.

I would go with 2-4" bed. Mine was 3" when I started but is not down to 1". I'm planning a topping up this spring. Yes I do vacuum my bed (but not as much as I should). When it's back to 3-4" I will only vacuum to top 1".
