Has anyone kept Fromia Sp. of starfish? In particular, the little red seastars from JandL? Some say they needs 100g+ mature tanks to scavenge, others say they will take spot feeding of dried algae and meaty items. Any personal experience?

thanks,

Jon

I saw one in Deb's tank in Calgary last year. Neat little guys and brightly colored. Not sure how big the tank should be.

www.liveaquaria.com (http://www.liveaquaria.com/) is a good source of information.

Ya, I saw that site, they say, "It requires a mature tank with algae and is generally fairly self-sufficient in the aquarium, finding enough micro-organisms and detritus to scavenge" and then "If there is insufficient algae growth in the aquarium, the diet should be supplemented with flaked foods, and small pieces of fish or mussel". These almost seem to contradict each other. But anyways, thanks.

I've had two and both have starved. I tried to spot feed them but they would not eat. I would suggest a bigger tank (100gal) as mine was only 33gal. But man do they look good!
