hey i want to build a hood for my 120, and i was wondering whats the best way to build one for a 6 foot tank? should it be in 2 parts?
dose anyone know any good blueprints?

all the hood will do is just cover my ugly PC lights and skimmer, i dont want to hang anything from it, just used for a good look.

i was thinking about having it 8 inches tall and to cover the whole top of the tank ?

anyone with ideas let me know

Funny, I am about to build the same thing. I could post some pics when I am finished. I will just build a frame of 2x4s for the top frame then put oak plywood around it. Front sheet of oak a little smaller so it won't get caught on the tank when you open it up. Hinges will go on the top and the front will open upwards.

If it isn't supporting weight: 1 x 2 inch prime skeleton with a 1/4" oak skin.

I've made plenty in that manner and they are light and robust!

Exactly how mine is built.....
For added strength glue all your joints before nailing or screwing.

:thumb: Always, always, always glue! Then all you need to use are some 1" finishing nails that dont look unsightly and the whole rig will be solid as all hell.
