Your aqua-medic oceanrunner 3500 oes 900 gph at 0 feet head height. So assuming your tank is 5 feet tall at the top edge of the glass, chances are the pump is only doing 500-600 gph. And the total volume of your system is 47 gallons. Recommended turn over for a reef tank is at least 10 time per hour. So if you're serious about getting proper in tank circulation you need to find another 4100-4200gph. This is pretty unreasonable to do with just a circulation pump so thats where powerheads come in. A seio M1500 does 1500 gph, two of those in your tank would be unsightly and create a small typhoon. What's the soultion..... I'm not sure.
I'd probably have one powerhead at least, but chances are you won't be able to achieve the "required" circulation. But as much as you can provide will be benificial to keep detritus for settling down into the rock work and let your filtration clean it out of the water column.
Cheers, hope that helps!
Wouldnt the total recommened turn over only be like 470gph. I'm not sure where the 4100-4200 comes from. This would be 100x turn over
