Are people turning down heaters or totally off when the summer heat comes?
I'm worried with my 250Mh over the tank. The tank is at 81 all the time. A chiller is not an option on this sumpless 33gal tank.

princess auto has 120mm fans on sale for 9.99...without MH running they took my tank to 74 from 80 in a few days..that'll teach me to use a thermometer..

Remember that fans add to evaporation as well.

I don't see the need to turn off your heaters. Their programed to kick in only when needed so if its a hot summer they will just stay off until winter when their needed.

I was surprised when I began getting 3 degree swings in the temperature in my 33 gal tank back in January. Solved the problem by throwing a blanket over the tank each night after the actinics shut off. Temperature only dropped a half a degree after that.
Found out later that the heater in my sump had quit working - probably months before. Seems the PC lighting and the sump and skimmer pumps in the sump were giving off enough heat to keep things right temperature-wise until the cold days came upon us.
Sorry that this doesn't help you reduce the temp in your aquarium, but I thought others might make use of my experience.
