Well, I was always having problems with micro bubbles coming from my return lines. It was driving me crazy and I did some research into my problems and traced it down and it was too much flow through my sump. I originally tried a Mag18 trying to get all my tank turnover through my sump. Discovered that it wasn't the way to go. I then tried a Mag9.5, almost but no luck. Today I picked up a Hagen 901 powerhead which can be run as a sump pump and after head loss yields me about 400gph. I took my mag9.5 and set it up as a closed loop and then plumbed a single return from my sump for the 901. My tank has absolutely no microbubbles, my durso is completely silent and I am getting about 12x tank turnover between the closed loop and overflow. The only kink I need to work out now is a little bit of noise from the mag pump which I believ to be a bit of cavitation. Anyone with experience with mags on a CL would be great. Anyhoo, here are some pics.

Looks pretty cool. Thanks for the ideas!
How are you drawing water into the closed loop?

O yeah....I forgot to mention that. There is a 8 inch 3/4" perforated riser coming out of a bulkhead at the bottom of the tank behind the rock structure on the right. It flows directlty down into the mag.
