Hello everyone,
Does anyone have either a bicolor pseudochromis (Pseudochromis paccagnellae, also known as a royal dottyback or bicolor dottyback) or a blue-sided fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura, also known as Ruby head fairy wrasse or purple head fairy wrasse)?

My fiance finds them quite beautiful and I agree with her but I like to get anecdotal experience from others before I purchase fish. I currently have a canary wrasse, a clarkii, a cardinal, and two chromis in my 55 gal with plenty of LR.

Thanks guys,
-Dave

Not 100% sure but you may have trouble with the 2 wrasses, I personally also wouldn't buy a fish like a fairy wrasse without seeing it first as they can range quite a bit in appearence.

I did also have a blue-sided fairy wrasse a while back, and I'll never get one again, the whole time I had it all it ever did was make mucus, it wasn't a very nice fish in my opinion.

Thanks steve,
What do you mean by making mucus?

Certain species of wrasse make a type of mucas sleepingbag(cacoon) at night time to protect themselves from preditors. I'v never whitnessed it but apparently this happens.

yes what Dallas said, mine did it every night and for the rest of the day it still had mucus all over it's body, it was gross.

ugh, well I do like seeing natural behavoirs and all but that sounds kinda nasty. My old royal gramma used to add to his nest all the time by bringing macro algae 'branches' into his cave, it was amazing!
