Ok, I have read a little up on them but need more real life info. I picked up a hammer coral and a toadstool leather today. I have kept them anway from any other corals and are both in moderate flow locations. Lighting is 250w (x2) mh and 220w of VHO actinic. Do they require target feeding or do they get alot from light and filter feeding. Any real life experience and tips would be great.
Thanks everyone.
BTW I will get pics up once they open up and settle in.

My yellow leather toadstool is doing very well by getting lots of light and lots of water movement - had to frag it in half a couple of months back and the half that was left near the top of the tank close by the water flow is just about back at its original size before the fragging.

The Hammer likes medium light and water flow. It is quiet aggresive so don't put it to close toother corals. The Toadstool likes medium to high light and water flow. It is a peaceful coral. Some toadstools release toxins so its a good idea to run some carbon when keeping softies and hard corals together. Both these guys need strontium, calcium, and trace elements. They also like the odd feeding of phyto, zoo plankton, brine or mysis. Good luck

I have the hammer about 12" from the water surface right now which puts it about a total of about 20" from my 250w mh, maybe move it lower in the tank?
I just ordered some new carbon so I will make sure to put some in.
Thanks guys.

You will know if the coral likes the placement. It will totally open up and extend its polyps if its happy. If it stays closed then either its getting to much, not enough water flow or to much, not enough light. then you can try moving it around till you find a place its happy in. Leathers usually arn't to fussy.

The hammer coral seems to be extended nicely and the leather is starting to extend it's polyps. I will give them a week before I make any real judgements.
