Found new lighting technology

I stumbled across this new light fixture I read it & dont know what to think!!

real neat but you can buy a lot of bulbs for that price,give it a year or two then see if the prices come down

They've had that out for a while now. for 2-3k you can get the system that lasts about 15 years...that's considering you're giving the led's a pure unchanged power supply. varrying power is LEDs weakness. so in 15 years with MH that's about $3600 in electricity (at today's price), 4 ballasts @ say 150ea. $600, and 15 pairs of bulbs at say..another $150/pr...so..~$6450.

pretend we buy the 60" fixture @ $2896. tax + shipping + exchange. let's say this thing will cost $3500 and for 15 years of electricity (say it's 40% of the halides...$3600x.4=1440) = $4940.

so over 15 years, you save ~$1500. Question is are LEDs reliable for 15 years :P

personally, I think they'd be effin cool! haven't seen them catch on mainstream yet..not sure why. I'm sure reefcentral could tell us, but I ain't searchin thru that mess to find out. probably has something to do with reliability concerns.

I'm sure you could buy a box of 1000 LEDs off ebay for $100 and figure it out yourself :D

Yeh they sell those LED systems on JL though there extremely expensive.

i ordered a 48" one Used from a buddy of mine out on the west coast, its about a year old, i dont have it here yet, i will when i see him, but he bought his when they were first released, and it was like 4000$ and it works really slick cause you can adjust, and have it time to move along like the sun does.
