I pick-up a Regal Tang just over a week ago, it had a small amount of ick, after a couple of days the ick disappeared. Now for some reason the ick came back, I know , the Regal Tang is a ick magnet. The ick is worse the ever before, but didnt hurt its appetite, eating like a horse lol, any how the Tang seems to be fine other the the ick seems to be getting worse. I figure just leave it for a few more days and it might clear up again. What's your guys option?

Hi there
I guess i don't really qualify yet to asnwer your post, but if i understood the explanation's i got one time on the matter, the ick will not just clear up on it's own, it will just repeat, appearing to clear up, but that is because it drop's off your fish/livestock, to incubate and multiply. From what i understood, you can take the fish out if you caught the ick right away and treat the one animal, or once it multiplies (Your case) you will have to treat the entire tank.
But like i said, im still pretty new at the hobbie, as such there could be more to this than i know. If i understood it corectly at all.
Good luck

Hi Darren,
Ick is not to be taken lightly. If left untreated, this scourge can whip out your entire tank very quickly. It is almost the same disease found in freshwater tanks however cannot be treated as easily. In fact, I know of only one medication that can be used on it in a reef environment and that is Kick Ick. Used at 1 1/2 strenght, many people have had success in treating Ick outbreaks, (Myself included). I highly recommend it and I have it in stock.
Give me a call.
Take care

Mine did the exact same thing. I started feeding food soaked in garlic extract I got from Rick and fired up the UV. This might help if it is not to far gone. I have not seen it since but i leave the UV on now on a timer just in case. I read a large thread on RC about feeding ginger also which many people have had great success with. You might want to do a search. Good luck!

With "kick ich" you have a 50/50 chance of getting rid of it.The only sure fire ways are "copper","hyposalinity",or leaving your tank fallow for 6 weeks!I have tried "kick ich" on 3 occasions and it worked ONCE,due to the fact that i heavily overdosed it in a small 20G tank.Way more then 1 1/2 times.I have been running a UV for about a month now and i have absoulutly no signs of parasites anymore!Good luck and use a treatment that is proven or else your just wasting time and money!

I like the idea of using Garlic in there diet. I used to raise Discus and I made a beefheart mixture and allways added Garlic, worked well to keep parasites away never had a problem with gill fulkes or ick. I would like to know if anyone has used Kent's Garlic Extreme? The Tang is eating very well, and act's like theres nothing wrong, except for his white dots lol. Still trying to decide on what to do, the cost of kick ick is not cheap treating a 130 gallon tank.

My Regal Tang used to get ick when I first got him and I spent lots of money on chemicals and even bought a new tank to quarantine him, but in the end, none of that mattered - it didn't "beat" the ick. The tang just kept eating, and growing and the ick became less and less, and now maybe every few months he might get a spot or two, but I don't worry. He's been around for over a year and a half and never got ick bad after the first few months, and he's been moved from tank to tank over this time.
I'd say you can't do anything about it, feed him and make sure he gets lots of food and I would think he will beat it, ie: build up a resistance to it. I don't think any of the stop ick type of products are worth the money.
Some one in the club said, keeping these fish is a gamble, if they make it with the best of your care then good, but many a time it's beyond our control, so don't sweat it.
Once I relaxed about the ick, it stopped being a problem :)
So feed him and relax I say. Worked for me, hardly scientific - but how can I argue with success

I've had one for six months which I bought from A1. He's only about 3 inches and he hasn't got ick yet. I don't run a UV or anything fancy. I just have a really cheap skimmer, lots of rock, 70g tank/30g sump. The only thing that may help which I have is a cleaner shrimp allthough I have never seen him cleaning the tang. He also eats like a horse. I have had great luck with him and he's my favorite fish.
