OH MY GOD!!!!! Saskpower has not come out to read our meter in over 12 months. When they came by, they realized they grossly underestimated our power bill and we owe over $900! AHHHHH! Does that suck or what?

make sure to speak with them about % interest terms on repayment, b/c it is their fault they should b reading it every three months.

I totally agree on that one, you should not be penalized for their oversight! I hope that they are accomodating for you.

Ouch!!!! That stings. With a power bill like that you probably have a surveillance van outside your house. " How long does it take to deliver a pizza anyway? "

Just curious but this have anything to do with that business your hubby was running, its been along time, but I think/thought he was wrking or lobbying the goverenment to privitze the utilities. Either way their mistake, your mistake for not noticeing who cares it still really sucks to have that kinda bill added to a persons debt.

Hope you 2 can figure something out with them for repayment.

Adie

I also hope school is going well for u.

:Cuss:
That was a little bit ridiculous.... not all of us have time to piss around and monitor every one of our bills to find out if they are $50 over her or $50 under there. Maybe you have all the time in the world to sit around and check these kind of trivial things, but some of us have REAL LIVES and real problems to worry about versus some little flaw in our power bill.
Lets put it this way: 900/12 = 75.
If I missed $75 out of my month-to-month bills I wouldn’t bat an eye.
ON TOP OF THAT it's not the consumers responsibility to ensure that they are charged correctly for the products/services. If you went into wal-mart and accidentally got $2 off on something, and they came back 6months later telling you to pay up you would go tell them to piss up a tree.
Anyhow, good luck with that Jocelyn and don’t let the ignorance of some people get you down.

Sorry to here about your power bill Joc... Just for you other people, Jocelyn added some electricty consuming products in the last year to her home. (New tank, Metal Halide lights). Sask Power HAS NO WAY of knowing when you do this. Other reasons for Saskpower not reading the meters are pets in the back yard or some other non-access problem to where the meter is located.

Your assuming Jocelyn didn't notice that her bill was low is rather short sighted thinking. What she saw was a reflection of years gone by before she added new power using items. After all, when I opened my store, added freezer & fridge. Added oddles of lighting and heating. Added a 360 gallon reef tank with chiller, added etc. etc. etc. my power bill to catch up was >>>>>$2,700.00<<<<<. My monthly power bill went from $210.00 to $450.00 simply because I added new power consuming devises in the last year. Should I have expected a (MUCH) larger power bill because of my decision to open a business. I'd have to say YES.... Did I expect it to be so much more.... Hmmmm, I'd have to say NO. But regardless, It is NOT Saskpowers job to monitor when people add power consuming devises to their homes. That would be impossible at best.

Getting these <Surprise> power bills is un-nerving enough without people calling you down because you didn't <Expect> to receive it. Hmmm, I better quit before I really get rolling and start pissing people off again... I've been good at doing that lately. But I think I read somewhere that I could voice my opinion on this site openly and honestly... Well, I guess we'll see.

Thats a bummer!I was worried about my water bill going up when i was running like 5 tanks and useing massive amounts of water, but it only went up like $5.00 or something like that, but i was always sure to look at my bills to see if they were "estimate" or "actual" readings. If i had never seen an "actual" reading i would have called to see what was up!
Hopefully all works out well!

I normally try to stay miles away from these kinds of posts.:Bolt: But... I though I'd say two things. First, I think what Rick said was well put. Second, correct me if I'm wrong, but does Saskpower not send out little cards for you to mark down your meter readings about every 3 months. They then adjust your bill accordingly to what you have sent in??? (this may not happen if your on the equal billing method, as we are not so I would not know)

No, I totally agree with the kid, on what Rick said was a very good statement, I do not run on equelized just for the fact or trouble that he and Joyc ran into, I like to keep a close I on my bills to c how adding extra parts, or adding energy saveing devices will affect my bill, and as we all know paying your bills is a fact of life and I do not think any of us r rich enough to just through 75 bucks a month away. If u r that rich, could u through the money my way i could, always use the cash to pay some other bills I have.

Like I said before good luck, and hopefully u can make some kind of deal with sk power to pay it off in increments or without interest. With that hopefully this long and silly thread will b over.

Adie

And the moral of this thread is we really sure do like to fight amongs ourselves, and b watch your bills so they do not get out of hand, this is a very expensive hobby, no one needs to have bills like this pop up on them..

Sorry, I have not logged into this site in forever! Got a message that somebody felt bad about what they wrote in the post so I thought I would check it out! Wow! Very long. If I would have noticed people actually read this, I would have updated it.

1) The power bill had nothing to do with my husbands job! haha! Don't really get where that came from, anyways! It has nothing to do with power or energy in Canada currently. His business is perfectly legal and the government wasn't punishing us. :poke:

2) We had added the halides, but as we received a HUGE check the previous year for equalized payments, we never figured that their would be a problem for it raising. When we added the halides, etc extra set-up, I never figured it would be THAT big of a change.
3) We also had 2 friends who were kicked out of there house, we allowed them to stay with us awhile. The one was finally kicked out today as he CONSTANTLY left the lights on, doors open in mid winter (while he smoked etc) as we were just letting him stay with us to be kind to a friend. He took major advantage of the $250 rent all bills included (phone, internet etc). He wasn't paying for it, so he didn't care what he wasted. Anyways he is gone now (with a huge amount of our money). So the doubled amount of people used a lot more power.

SOLUTION: We contacted SaskPower. They were VERY understanding and apologetic. They are suppose to come by 2 times a year to check equalized payments. (I don't remember getting any cards, but if so the dumb roommate may have taken them cause they never came through). As this does happen, they do have a plan of action. We will divide this and pay the extra over a 12 month period. so it is fair, we will just pay under $100 a month more each month till it is paid off. But now we know to ensure it is checked/ call it in. Lesson for everyone. When you install new equipment IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY SASKPOWER. My friend had this happen when he installed a swimming pool and ran a similar problem. OUCH!!! Hope everyone calls and gives their numbers just to be sure. Doesn't hurt to make that quick call.
Just a word to everyone. I am not offended by anyones comments. Everyone has their side or theory and that is fine. Don't worry about defending either side. Accidents happen. Just hope everyone can learn from my little mistake. hehe! Hope all is well for everyone.
